It’s no surprise that I get a bit TV show obsessed. And I am currently obsessed with Schitt’s Creek. It took a bit to get to this obsession, I have to admit I was a bit turned off by the name of the show. I thought it was going to be a zany sitcom, with canned laughter. But what I found after I watched the first episode was seriously comedic genius. And no, I am not overselling it. This show is close to perfection.
As you know, I’m not good at explaining plots, and honestly if someone told me the plot of this show I wouldn’t exactly be drawn to watch it. What is so amazing about this show is the comedic writing and the characters. Oh, and the amazing cast.
So, in an effort to entice you into watching this show, because I really think everyone and their mother should watch it, here are ten reasons you should be watching Schitt’s Creek. Like now, right after you read this post.

Honestly, what isn’t great about Canada? I mean how many of us haven’t considered moving up there in the last three years? Canadians are delightful, and there is something magical about their comedies. Does anyone remember Kids in The Hall?
Although the town of Schitt’s Creek isn’t set in Canada, or any country for that matter, it’s cast is mostly Canadian.
Daniel Levy is Magical
I had never heard of Daniel Levy before Schitt’s Creek, but I have always loved Eugene Levy, Daniel’s dad. A Mighty Wind, is my favorite Eugene Levy movie, and Best in Show is Eric’s favorite.
As a side note, this is my favorite scene from A Mighty Wind, literally makes me laugh out loud every time
But if Eugene Levy is chocolate ice cream, then Daniel Levy is brownie fudge ice cream atop a gooey brownie, topped with whipped cream.
Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara are Back Together
They were my favorite couple in A Mighty Wind, and I love them even more in Schitt’s Creek.
I found this tumblr dedicated to Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara and it is the most endearing thing I’ve seen in a long time.
Moira’s Vocabulary, and Personality, and Wardrobe
When you first start watching Schitt’s Creek, Moira, played by Catherine O’Hara, can come off as a bit of a cartoon. But the more you watch, the more you get engulfed in her world, and she becomes as real as anyone else. And she is an amazing human to watch.
The Way Alexis Rose says ‘David’
I thought I was the only one who was in love with the way Alexis Rose, played by Annie Murphy, says ‘David’ but it turns out that I am one of many.
Simply the Best Rendition of Simply the Best
I shared this last week, and it is not only an amazing rendition of the song, it’s a truly touching scene. I may or may not have shed a few tears. I’m only posting the song, because I don’t want to spoil the scene if you decide to watch the show. Which you should!
The Relationship Between David and Patrick is Perfect
I think one of the biggest differences about this Canadian show and most American shows I’ve seen, is a relationship between two men. I feel like I haven’t seen a good representation of a male couple on American TV, like ever. This show treats the relationship like any other, and it’s beautifully written.
It Gets Better with Every Season
Schitt’s Creek just wrapped up it’s fifth season, and it honestly has gotten better with each season. You can stream seasons 1-4 on Netflix, but the fifth season isn’t released yet. I loved season four so much that I bought season five on Amazon because I couldn’t wait for it to come out!
Do yourself a favor and watch this show! And if you don’t like the first season, watch the second. I know it’s a commitment, but I promise it will pay off!
