I’ve been eating a lot of protein bars recently, and some are definitely better than others. I’ve put together a list for you so that you don’t have to suffer through the not great ones, and you can just get right to the good stuff!
My mom used to buy protein bars when I was younger, and I remember their taste and texture very distinctly. The inside was chalky, and the chocolate flavor wasn’t quite chocolatey as much as it was chocolate-esque.
Nowadays, those crappy bars still exist, but there are better ones out there, and some of them are actually really good!
Built Protein Bars
I was super excited to try these bars because everyone on Weight Watchers Connect raved about them. They said that the texture was like marshmallows, and they tasted like dessert. Also, they are only 3 points which is pretty good for a protein bar.
I don’t like to spend more than 5 points on a protein bar, since it’s supposed to be a meal replacement. If it’s more than 5 points, it’s probably got a lot a of sugar and nonsense that is not going to keep me fueled and full for very long.
I had my first Built Bar this weekend, and I tried the Chocolate Raspberry one. The flavor was good, but the texture was…different. It was a bit marshmallowy, but also really chewy. It wasn’t terrible but it also wasn’t fantastic. When I finished the bar, I thought to myself, I both love and hate this texture.
I will say that if you refrigerate the Salted Caramel bar, it tastes like a candy bar, and is a really nice treat when you’re looking for something sweet. Also, these bars have kind of ruined me for the other protein bars, because they taste more like a candy bar than a protein bar.

Quest Protein Bars
Quest Protein Bars are delicious. They are legit good, and they are only 5 points, some are 4! My favorite is the S’Mores flavor, because it tastes amazing, and it has these little pops of graham crackers inside that make it actually taste like a dessert.
My favorite flavor used to be the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, which is really tasty, but then I tried the Kirkland Brand Cookie Dough Flavor which blows Quest out of the water.
Kirkland Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Protein Bars
Costco is my happy place. I am no loner allowed to go to Costco without a list, and I’m not allowed to buy anything that is not on said list, because I have zero self control when left to my own devices. Seriously y’all, I have a hard time spending less than $200 each time I go.
I didn’t find these protein bars in Costco the first time, I actually found them on a business trip, in the hotel gift shop. I have tried the Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and Chocolate Brownie flavors, and they are all really good. Really really good. Sometimes I’ll eat them for dessert instead of my beloved Halo Top Ice Cream.
If I wrote about all of the protein bars that are awful, chalky, dog food, this post would be about 10,000 words long. These bars are my favorite so far, and I’ll update this post if I come across any other gems.
What is your take on protein bars? Love em or hate em?
