Oh Where, Oh Where Have I Been? Work and Family Travel

A few of you have reached out recently because I haven’t posted in a while, and I love you for that! But have no worries, I’m safe and sound. And very exhausted. Blame it on the travel.

Here is where I have been in the last six weeks:

In the beginning of June I took a road trip for work to New Jersey and spent the night in Pennsylvania. The silver lining was I got to hang with one of my oldest friend (we met when we were 12), and we sang karaoke and got hit on by bar flies. It was just like old times.

The week of June 17th, I was in Dallas Texas and was holed up in my hotel, just not feeling the travel vibe. I did run my first 5K in the gym though, and that was an amazing feeling!

The following week I was in London, England. Yes, London. As much as the travel makes me insane, I can’t get over the fact that I get to go to different countries for work. Pardon my indulgence here:

Elevators are called lifts in London

Hotel breakfasts in Europe are so much better than in the US, and I’ve eaten a lot of hotel breakfasts!
Travel to London - Fleabag
Have you seen Fleabag on Amazon? If you haven’t, go and watch it, like now. This is where they filmed it.
Travel to London - An Audience of One
Turkish tea while reading this amazing book and waiting on my second breakfast of the day. I kind of lived like a hobbit in London.

Travel to London - Big Ben
Big Ben was having surgery. Between this and the clock in Prague, I think I have some sort of epic clock curse.
Travel to London - Buckingham Palace
OK, so I was a little underwhelmed with Buckingham Palace. I don’t know what I was expecting, maybe something more like the Disney castle.

Travel to London - Abbey Road
I walked across Abbey Road! And the crazy thing is that it is a super busy thoroughfare! It’s literally treacherous to take pictures of the road, and people are crossing it all day to recreate the Beatles album cover.

Travel to London - Flat White
I had my first Flat White. A Flat White is like a latte but with less foam, and it’s somehow creamier. It was delicious.
Travel to London - Harry Potter
Yeah, London is Harry Potter town. So awesome.

During the first week of July we took a road trip from Connecticut to Minneapolis (New York, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota) for a National Taekwondo competition.

Eric and I played the butt warmer game for entertainment. Have you tried this? You turn on the warmer without telling the other person and see how long it takes for them to notice.

I didn’t know it but Minneapolis is a super hip city. It’s eco and veggie friendly, and super clean. I had no idea. This pizza place was my favorite spot.

Vegetarian Pizza
Veggie pepperoni and veggie sausage with mushrooms, onions, and peppers. The stuff dreams are made of.

Jack earned a silver medal in breaking, and sixth place in form. It was a serious proud mom event for me. Gushingly proud.

This kid, amiright?

We stopped at a few attractions along the way like the Mouse House in Wisconsin, Minnesota’s Largest Candy Store, and The Bean in Chicago.

Family Travel in Wisconsin
They were unimpressed. At this point Lorelai was super upset that she had to use her legs for walking. Four year olds, what can you do?
Pez Pez Pez
Seriously the biggest candy store I’ve ever seen.

Puzzles in The Largest Candy Store
Each of these sections is full of puzzles on each side. This place was my family’s happy place, candy for the kids and puzzles for mom. We didn’t want to leave!
Family Travel to Chicago - The Bean
The Bean! This was hours before Jack threw up half his guts. Poor little dude, held it in like a champ and even made it into the bag instead of all over the car.

And lastly, this week, I’m in Austin Texas. It’s so hot in Texas. Like an oven! The cool thing though is that I got to visit Sprinkles Bakery! Eric and I were obsessed with Cupcake Wars and Candace Nelson, the owner of Sprinkles, was one of the judges. Ironically enough, the cupcakes were not that great.

So the reason I haven’t been here writing is because I’ve literally been everywhere else! Man oh man!

The hardest thing about travel is feeling frazzled. Feeling like I’m in limbo, I’m not quite here but I’m not quite there. I actually started writing this post yesterday and wasn’t able to finish it until this evening around 10pm.

But I’m here! And I’m glad you are too!

How have you been? How was your month?

Man oh man, it really was. Though London was a magical place, and I honestly can’t wait to go back there. If not anything else, all of this travel showed me an amazing new place! It feels so good to be home though.

I am so glad you are back!
Also, you seriously were in my neighborhood so next time you get to come this way, I will meet you for lunch/dinner/snacks.

I am not a huge breakfast fan at home (unless it’s chocolate chip pancakes and bacon) but I LOVE breakfast when I am on the road. Those English breakfasts look AMAZING.

I’m so glad to be back too! Though as you can tell, I’m super behind on my comments!

OK, so where do you actually live? I thought I knew, but now I’m not so sure. Also, road breakfast is the most amazing of all the foods.
