An Ode to Pumpkin Spice Lattes

I was sitting at my desk, when the door opened and Eric said,

“Summer is officially over.”

It was a strange thing to hear, as Eric is not one to speak to seasons often. When I turned to question what he’d said, in his hand I saw a shiny beacon of pumkiny goodness: a Dunkin Donuts Pumpkin Swirl Latte with almond milk.

And I know what you’re thinking, and potentially saying out loud angrily to the computer/phone screen: IT’S STILL AUGUST, IT’S CLEARLY STILL SUMMER!

I hear you, I really do. But each dreamy sip takes my straight into my flannels and fleece, and I swear I can hear the crunching of fallen leaves.

Does anyone else smell that cool crisp Autumn air? Or am I simply delusional, breathing in the conditioned air loudly spewing into my office, as it’s done every other day of Summer?

That last sip of pumpkin latte wraps its arms around me, and assures me, I’m not crazy. Even though Eric is outside cleaning the pool and it’s currently 83 degrees and mostly sunny.

Summer, you were good to me, and I to you. But move along, it’s Pumpkin time! Call me basic and unoriginal, call me whatever you will. I’ll be here in my pumpkiny dreamland sipping the sweet spice of my latte.

We had a few cool mornings that held that hint of fall… but I am still enjoying all that summary warmth. But I don’t drink coffee and can only hand pumpkin spiced foods in moderation so I’m a little weird like that! 🙂

Ha! I get that, I don’t expect everyone to be as pumpkin-obsessed. We had some beautiful crisp days, and then as soon as we closed our pool, temperature jumped back into the 80’s and even hit 90! I’m sure you are getting the same thing in your neck of the woods.

I saw so many pumpkins the other day and knew that fall was very close. The return of pumpkin spice definitely denotes that fall is nearing. But is it like Christmas decorations showing up earlier and earlier every year?

OK, so I agree with you on the Christmas decorations, but I’ll take Fall as early as when my kids start school. In CT they start in August, so I’m OK calling that the start of Fall.

My kids start the first of August and even though it’s HOT as Hades, I’d like to call it the start of fall. The longer the fall, the better.

Agreed! It’s been so hot this week, and the grass is covered with leaves. Mother Nature is confused, lol.

You are KILLING me! In a good way, of course. I do love me some Pumpkin Spice Latte and can’t believe it is even in stores. But I will wait until after Labor Day weekend and treat myself some. Like pumpkin pie in liquid form mmmmmm…..IT’S STILL SUMMER. 😉
